Project Life: April ’17

Hi there! I have a new Project Life layout to share with you today but first… I hope you guys can check out the latest issue of Jot Magazine, issue 18. You can see a couple of my layouts that I’ve already shared here on the blog on pages 184 and 185! How cool is that? I was so excited when I found out my layouts were going to appear in the magazine!

I will go ahead and spill the deets on April’s layout, I was not looking forward to it. I wasn’t. I took few photos and none matched, at all. So I thought to myself, “what do I do?” Just skip April or just throw something together and hurry and skip this page when I look through my album? Then I thought “having an all black and white layout would be kind of cool.” I mean, that is what I did with my WITL also and that’s one of my favorite layouts. So I started editing my photos and I was feeling content. Then I decided to look through Push Print Studios and find black and white inserts. Then I came across a couple of 3×4 inserts that were black and white, but also had other pretty colors. And voila! My April layout came together!

Once I printed out the inserts I wanted, I added a couple of Color Cast Designs embellishments to add some dimension and more color. The “details” embellishment is from a past set, I don’t think it’s for sale anymore, but I love how it paired nicely with the striped insert and the two plastic tickets. You can find this ticket set on Studio Calico. Also from Color Cast Designs, is the Giant Ampersand in Caribbean.

My Graphite Black Brilliance ink pad is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to use on layouts. I normallyy use Archival Ink, which I still love, but lately I’ve been using the Brilliance ink. The ink has this real nice matte finish that looks like it was printed on your photo. If you haven’t used this ink, I definitely recommend it! I did use my MISTI on my stamping though! The “you’re my favorite” stamp is from Kelly Purkey’s Favorite Things stamp set (sorry guys, I couldn’t find it on her site).

I’m happy now with how it all turned out and I’m glad I didn’t just skip through to May, but now… I need to start May’s layout. Let’s see how that turns out!

Thanks for stopping by!

Kellie Stamps: May ’17 Release

I don’t know about you but I’m having what I call my “dream Saturday morning” right now. This pretty much consists of a cup of coffee in hand, being fresh out of the shower, and catching up on my favorite crafty blogs while watching HGTV, that and knowing I have absolutely no other plans for the rest of the day! Yay for me!

Speaking of coffee, Kellie Stamps came out with a new coffe stamp set on May’s release called Coffee. I made all new pocket page inserts using the digital stamps on this set. I went with a gray and craft paper color scheme for this 6×8 layout. Craft paper is my fave!

Below you can see my favorite insert I made for this layout with a little bit of journaling. Luckily Midland has a couple of neat spots around town and I was able to get some photos of one of our newer coffee shops, Brew St.

For this next project, I created a mini-album page using the Funday Week digital stamp set. I wanted to make something simple to go with this black and white photo of my bored self.

20170519_183342

You know I will always try to add lyrics from The Cure anywhere I can so this was perfect. Who doesn’t love Friday I’m In Love? It’s an automatic mood booster.

20170519_182920

For fun, I thought I’d show you guys the before and after photo of me that I took of myself through the side mirror of my husband’s truck. I obviously took it with my phone (if you squint your eyes you can see my phone on the bottom mirror), and I edited the photo in Lightroom using the BlackMamba preset. You can download the preset for free! This has been my go-to black and white edit lately.

If you follow me on Instagram you heard about my big news, I completely forgot to post here on the blog, but I was a guest designer for Bella Blvd last month. You can read my post here! It was challenging yet rewarding to make layouts with different styled products I’m not normally accustomed to using. It definitely made me broaden my view on making layouts with more color and new types of embellishments! So a huge thank you to Bella Blvd for inviting me to their blog and giving me a chance to show my designs to their audience!

That is it for today! I hope you guys are having your “dream Saturday morning” like I am! Please let me know if you have any ideas for a Top 5 or other editing tips you’d like to see me cover here on The Lovely Pear!

Project Life: March ’17

I had no idea at the time but my last post was my 100th blog post for the Lovely Pear!!! I cannot believe my little blog has made it this far! Thank you to everybody who stops by to read my posts! Also, I’d like to wish all the moms out there a lovely Mother’s Day!

I decided to be done with my March layout. This was a first for me, having trouble with a layout because there were too many pictures. I did create smaller middle pages, and I have three so far and I actually need to add one more, but I’m ready to move on from March so I can start April! Just thinking about it makes me feel like I’m starting to fall behind, which then makes me feel lazy about it, meaning I won’t finish it (I’ve learned to accept that this is who I am but I shall try to power through this!)

The good thing is, I finished my two 9×12 pages and I’m ready to share away! Obviously March for us was all about our Moab trip. I love how I was able to get pops of yellow on the layout. All the inserts I used are from Push Print Studio’s Winter-16 collection.

20170511_121315

I did a lot of handstamping on this layout compared to my other layouts from this year. All the stamps I used are from Kelly Purkey’s monthly kit membership.

I love how “The world is waiting for us” (from the Go See Do kit) paired nicely with this black and white photo of the three of us. I used Tsukineko’s Brilliance Graphite Black ink and my MISTI to get it to look nice and crisp.

20170511_121352

I also used the “my journey starts here” stamp, also from the same kit, on this picture of the Abyss Canyon overlook. The white ink I used for this was Tsukineko’s Brilliance Moonlight White.

20170511_121358

I found this picture of AJ and thought it was neat (thank you GoPro), especially when I made it black and white. I think I really liked it also because I found it after AJ had gotten his haircut, plus I love the motion in the picture. At first I printed it as a 4×3 and then decided to make it an 8×6.

I heat embossed the “go. see. do.” stamp using Mama Elephant’s Sunshine Pigment Ink and Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Powder. I LOVE embossing!!!

And lastly, here is March’s journal card.Monthly Overview-Mar

Thank you guys for checking out my 101st blog post, I’m excited to see what the next 100 will be! See you next time!

Mini Album: Say Yes To New Adventures

Hey there! I have a couple of new mini album pages to share with you today. All the pictures on these pages were taken during our Moab trip (I promise I’ll stop talking about Moab soon… maybe.)  I actually love looking at these pages you’re about to see because if you didn’t know any better, you would think I was an adventurous person just by looking at them. You would have no idea that lately my life pretty much consists of watching all the Real Housewives, scarfing down rainbow sorbet, that’s if I actually felt like getting up and taking the time to scoop it in a plastic cup, if not, I’d be stuffing my face with Doritos. Adventurous? Ha!

For this first layout, I used two inserts from Push Print Studio for my background. The first insert (pink and white) is from the This and That set, and the second (polka dot) is from the Let’s Do This set. I added some washi tape from Studio Calico (?) and a die cut from Hero Arts Clearly Kelly’s To Do List stamp and die set. I made the transparency page with Grafix Ink Jet Film and added an exclamation mark pattern with Kellie Stamps’ Nuts About Food digital stamp set. If you have not checked out Caytlyn Chilelli’s (owner of Push Print Studio) blog post on how to print on transparency paper, you must! This is where I learned it from!

20170506_082344

The “Perfect” digital stamp is from Kellie Stamps’ Today Was set. I added some plus sign puffy stickers that I received from one of Messy Box’s kits.

20170506_082529

On the next layout, I kept it real simple and added a quote to one of my pictures with Photoshop.

20170506_082604

It’s a little hard to see the quote because I used a pale pink color for my font.

This is one of the many reasons I love my GoPro because let’s face it, if my husband took this photo with his phone, 1. it wouldn’t exist because he wouldn’t have taken a picture 2. if he did happen to take a picture after I asked him to, it would’ve looked like… well let’s just say I didn’t marry him for his photography skills.

20170506_082610

And here’s my last layout. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw me post this already for (Inter)National Scrapbooking Day. I joined the Kellie Stamps challenge which included making a patterned background and combining two different stamp sets.

20170506_082643

Again, this is another simple layout and again, it was my GoPro to the rescue. I’ve been inspired by a lot of magazine and typography design and I’ve been drawn to clean and simple looks and so I tried to mimick some of that into this album. The only embelleshment I used on this layout was a black heart from Amy Tangerine On A Whim thickers. I don’t use thickers often but I love this set and you might have seen some of these pop up on my flat lays.

So adventurous!!!

I must go now, my couch and TV await! Thanks for checking out today’s blog post!

Kellie Stamps April ’17 Release

It’s May!!! I don’t know why I’m so excited about a new month, maybe it’s because the school year is coming to an end? Or maybe it’s because I finally get to share my big news? Well, we’re almost there, I can’t do that just yet! It could also be that we’re getting closer to the new Game of Thrones season? Hey, it’s the little things friends!

April was full of great releases and today I’m sharing Kellie Stamps‘ new stamp sets, which are available in physical and digital formats.

The first digital stamp set I used was Like a Girl, but don’t be fooled by the name! You can use this set in numerous ways. I used it to document a 5K AJ and I had done a couple of years ago, you know, back when I actually did healthy, productive things… long, long ago.

20170418_124151

I love this layout because you can see the different things you can do with a digital stamp set. I created a journaling card with the “workout.” stamp, which is usually my first go-to technique.  I also created an insert with the “sweat smile repeat” stamp and I changed the color of it to match the rest of the spread.

Another way I like to use digital stamps is to simply put them on my photos, just like I did below.

20170418_124307

Did you watch my latest YouTube video? I used the technique from the video to make the “killin’ it” overlay.

20170418_124427

I have always wanted to create a layout with nothing but photos and this was my chance! I was able to do it with these photos of AJ and the Good Food stamp set.

20170418_125905

You know I love a big photo and this picture was perfect paired with the “Good Food” stamp.

20170418_125919

The “Cook Up” stamp was the perfect addition to this black and white photo of AJ!

20170418_125950

These are just a few things you can do with digital stamps. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy using physical stamps, but I do feel like I get more flexibility with digital. Do you like using digital stamps? What’s your favorite way to use them?

If you haven’t used digital stamps, I hope you got a little inspiration on how to use them! See you guys next time!
