Project Life

Project Life: March ’18

Hey there! I am sharing my March layout today! Yes, months later but… well, I have no excuse. I have been lazy as hell! Sometimes it’s hard for me to stay motivated. I blame this on my thyroid but I try not to say this out loud because I get the biggest eye roll and sigh from my husband everytime he hears it. I tell myself that my willpower is bigger than my thyroid but it turns out maybe not so much. Or am I really plain lazy? Maybe it’s a mixture of both?

So why am I telling you this? It could be because I feel inspired by Glennon Doyle. I just finished reading Love Warrior and it was so refreshing to read to somebody’s honest opinion. The whole book just felt like a friend telling me exactly how she felt with no filter. Or maybe I’m writing this because of the lack of human interaction I’ve had the last couple of weeks. I’ve been working from home lately and even though I mentioned “lack of human interaction”, don’t take that to mean something negative. I have seriously enjoyed working from home. Do you know how awesome it is to go to sleep on Sunday nights? That has quickly moved its way up to my Top 5 best feelings ever!

So anywhoo, here is my layout:

During the month of March, my husband and I went downtown for a festival and I took a couple of pictures that set the “tone” for the layout. I really like how this layout has a light feel to it. I didn’t add any embelishments because I wanted to keep this real simple.

I used the Relax Relax Relax, Wild, and Obsessed printable card sets from Push Print Studio. I altered most of the 4×6 cards into 3×4 inserts with PhotoShop.

Below you’ll see that I posted the before and afters of the photos I used for this layout. Editing photos is my favorite part! Normally I like to use the same preset per layout but I used multiple presets here.

I used the Montauk Bay preset for the Midland sign. I cropped the picture down and increased the exposure just a tad.

I took this photo outside of Office Depot because I needed some more pictures plus I wanted something to represent the beginning of Spring. I used the Mensch Maschine preset for this picture and increased the exposure to this as well.

This pic is my favorite! I see this building all the time when I drive through downtown and never thought much about it but when we here hanging out right in front of it all day, I noticed all these little details on it. Once I took the picture, I loved seeing all the shades of blue throughout the windows. I used the Garden Grove preset for this, which is one of my most used presets, and then I sharpened it a little more and straightened it.

And the best thing is, these presets are all FREE!

Believe it or not I already did my April layout but I won’t be able to share it here because I made it using the Studio Calico Explorer Documenter Kit for one of their classes. If you have access to the SC classes, go check it out!

I hope you guys have a great weekend!

Kellie Stamps: May ’17 Release

I don’t know about you but I’m having what I call my “dream Saturday morning” right now. This pretty much consists of a cup of coffee in hand, being fresh out of the shower, and catching up on my favorite crafty blogs while watching HGTV, that and knowing I have absolutely no other plans for the rest of the day! Yay for me!

Speaking of coffee, Kellie Stamps came out with a new coffe stamp set on May’s release called Coffee. I made all new pocket page inserts using the digital stamps on this set. I went with a gray and craft paper color scheme for this 6×8 layout. Craft paper is my fave!

Below you can see my favorite insert I made for this layout with a little bit of journaling. Luckily Midland has a couple of neat spots around town and I was able to get some photos of one of our newer coffee shops, Brew St.

For this next project, I created a mini-album page using the Funday Week digital stamp set. I wanted to make something simple to go with this black and white photo of my bored self.

You know I will always try to add lyrics from The Cure anywhere I can so this was perfect. Who doesn’t love Friday I’m In Love? It’s an automatic mood booster.

For fun, I thought I’d show you guys the before and after photo of me that I took of myself through the side mirror of my husband’s truck. I obviously took it with my phone (if you squint your eyes you can see my phone on the bottom mirror), and I edited the photo in Lightroom using the BlackMamba preset. You can download the preset for free! This has been my go-to black and white edit lately.

If you follow me on Instagram you heard about my big news, I completely forgot to post here on the blog, but I was a guest designer for Bella Blvd last month. You can read my post here! It was challenging yet rewarding to make layouts with different styled products I’m not normally accustomed to using. It definitely made me broaden my view on making layouts with more color and new types of embellishments! So a huge thank you to Bella Blvd for inviting me to their blog and giving me a chance to show my designs to their audience!

That is it for today! I hope you guys are having your “dream Saturday morning” like I am! Please let me know if you have any ideas for a Top 5 or other editing tips you’d like to see me cover here on The Lovely Pear!

Project Life: April ’16 (Part 4)

Hello everyone! I have more good news to share, I am now a part of the Color Cast Designs Design Team!

I am extremely excited to be a part of such a talented group of ladies and I cannot wait to start incorporating some of Color Cast Designs into my memory keeping! This year just keeps getting better and better!

img_20160914_182412

With that being said, here are my last two Vegas layouts. What an awesome trip we had! I’m so happy I took all these pictures to create these layouts. The whole reason of the trip was to see George Strait and Kasey Musgraves in concert.

For this layout I used Becky Higgins Design H Pocket Pages. I also used inserts from the Confetti Digital Edition and Stampin’ Up Everyday Adventure Digital Edition. One of my favorite things to do for concert layouts is to print out the set list. You want to remember the songs you jammed out to, right? Also, if you look below, you’ll notice we scored some bad-ass seats because I was able to walk away with guitar picks from each artist, and oh yeah, George and I had a moment… not really, he just touched my hand as he walked towards the stage. It’s definitely a moment in my book!

For my second layout, I decided to do some stamping. I haven’t stamped as much as I usually do just because I’ve been lazy. Hey, it happens! I used my Kellie Stamps for the stamping and a white tag to do some journaling. I also used the 4×6 insert from the Stampin’ Up Hello Lovely Digital Edition (LOVE this kit!!!) .

Here is a before and after of the Prince picture:

I did my editing in Lightroom and then ordered a 6×12 picture from Persnickety Prints, I have been so impressed with all my pictures that I order from there!

Believe it or not I still have more happy news to share, but that will be later! I hope you guys enjoyed my layouts, see you next time!

February ’16 Top 5

Hello again! I’m a little late on posting my February Top 5 but I have been enjoying spending time outdoors. We have been having beautiful weather out here in west Texas, plus we’re getting a lot closer to moving into our new house. So fingers crossed that everything goes well!

For this Top 5, I am listing my 5 favorite Adobe Lightroom Presets. I use Lightroom to edit ALL my pictures that I use for Project Life. I found these presets on Pinterest and I know there is a lot more out there that I have yet to discover. Most of the presets I use are free but there are a couple I paid for.

If you don’t have Lightroom, they do offer you a free 30 day subscription. After my free subscription was over I had no problem paying for a monthly subscription. I am definitely not an expert with this software but I feel like I have learned enough to play around with my pictures and I’m satisfied with how they come out.

Feb Top 5

1. Catch A Fire Preset

Catch A Fire 1Catch A Fire 2

The Catch A Fire preset is free, and if you click on the link above, it’ll take you to an awesome website, LookFilter, that offers 27 free Lightroom presets.

This is my black & white go-to, I just love the vintage feel to it. Almost all my black and white photos have been edited with this preset.

2. La Tuna Preset

This preset is also available in the LookFilter website. Again, I love the vintage feel to this, I love using this preset on portraits. This is also free!

3. Warm Retro Preset

Warm Retro 1Warm Retro 2

If La Tuna is a little too dark for my picture, I end up using Warm Retro. This preset is from a different site that also includes free presets, Preset Love. You guys might remember this picture from one of my Project Life layouts from last year.

4. Blood Brothers

Blood Brothers 1Blood Brothers 2

As much as I love a good vintage feel on my photos, I also love when pictures pop. I love all the detail and color you get with this preset, which you can also find for free on LookFilter.

5. Dragan Inspired Presets

And last but not least, the Dragan Inspired presets. Yes, I meant presets and not preset. I paid about $20 for this bundle which includes 58 presets, and I do not regret it at all. I use these presets on the majority of my pictures. I used two of the presets in this bundle for the photos above, I usually use about 2-4. It might sound a little daunting but it’s very easy to use.

I have made a couple of my own presets but definitely nothing like the ones I mentioned here. Please let me know what you guys think, I would love to hear what you do with your PL pictures, do you edit? If so, what do you use? What are some of your favorite presets?

Thanks for stopping by!

Project Life: September ’15

Hello everybody! I finally got to work and finished my Project Life layout for September. It was a fun month, the highlight was definitely our trip to Austin!

For my “cover” picture, I snapped a quick pic of what I found inside the duck’s cage once we got home from Austin. As you can see below, I printed a 8×6 picture of AJ at Top Golf and cut it down in three pieces.

DSC03282

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Studio Calico’s Laina Alpha stamp set. I always use my MISTI whenever I stamp my monthly “cover” picture. I also used stamp sets from Mama Elephant and Kelly Purkey.

I recently signed up for A Beautiful Mess’ Messy Box kit and I used some paper, washi tape, and the speech bubbles from it.

DSC03262

So, this month’s faves were:

Ancestry.com (so awesome, I actually met a cousin I didn’t know I had and we sent each other pics of our parents from back in the day)
The Weeknd (I have “The Hills” on repeat)
Tumblr (Who doesn’t want to see unlimited GIFs of Friends and Harry Potter?!)
Margaritas (enough said)
Crossword Puzzles (I downloaded an app called DCC and I have to play the daily puzzle before I go to bed)
Tortoise Hair Clip (Damn the day I walked into Old Navy and found that clip near the register, I never want to do my hair ever again! I can just put it in the clip!)

DSC03263

I wanted to show you guys the before and after of the picture I took of AJ and the picture of the duck eggs. I use Adobe Lightroom to edit all my pictures. I took both pictures with my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and then edited them on my computer.

20150920_155439-2 20150920_155439 20150922_193957-2 20150922_193957

The software was a little tough to figure out at first but after playing with it, watching a couple of YouTube videos, and buying presets, I can’t imagine not using it, ever! And it’s also because of this, I enjoy taking more photos. Every picture I’ve used for any layout has been edited with Lightroom.

That’s it for now, thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you guys next time!
